It has good water solubility, wettability, lubricity, physiological inertness, non-irritation to the human body, mildness, and is widely used in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Products with low relative molecular weight (molecular weight less than 2000) are suitable as wetting agents and consistency regulators for creams, lotions, toothpastes and beard creams, etc. Products with high relative molecular weight are suitable for lipsticks, deodorant sticks, soaps, beard soaps, foundations and beauty cosmetics. In cleaning agents, it is also used as a suspending agent and thickening agent. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used as a base for ointments, emulsions, ointments, lotions and suppositories. This product can also be reacted with acrylic acid to synthesize esters to increase its reactivity. It is the main monomer raw material for preparing polycarboxylate high-efficiency cement superplasticizers.
